V Švici so odprli najdaljši kopenski predor na svetu, po katerem bodo vlaki drveli s hitrostji do 250 km/h.
V Švici so slovesno odprli najdaljši kopenski predor na svetu. Skoraj 35 kilometrov dolg predor Lötschberg so gradili osem let, gradnja pa je stala okoli 2,6 milijarde evrov.

Kar sem slišal, je ta projekt, še toliko bolj pa glavni predor Gotthard base tunnel (57 km in še dva pomožna), izpeljan predvsem zaradi preusmeritve tovornega prometa na železnice. Menda je EU pritisnila na Švico, da mora dopustiti tranzitni promet. Švica je sprejela, a vse te kamione bo dala na vlak. Ker sedanji prelaz St. Gotthard (Švica-Italija) ni dovolj pretočen, so se odločili vrtati nov predor za hitre proge nižje v gori.

Danes, 15.10, so Švicarji prebili še zadnjo steno novega predora pod Gotthardom, ki je dolg kar 57 kilomentrov, torej je najdaljši predor na svetu.
Gradnja bo trajala še približno 6 do 7 let.

Danes je prvi vlak prepeljal levo cev smer jug-sever. Vožnja je trajala 6 ur. Konec leta pa bodo šli s testiranjem prvih 16 km z povprečno hitrostjo 220 km/h.

Za vožnjo v predoru bo obvezna kabinska signalizacija ETCS 2. Pretočnost: 16 vlakov na uro.

Medtem, ko se pri nas kregamo okoli drugega tira, v Švici načrtujejo nov 28 kilometrski predor.

V načrtu pa je že drugi najdaljši predor, ki bo krajši za manj kot 100 metrov. Mont-Cenis-Basistunnel ~57,09 km; Relacija Torino-Lyon
Brenner bazni tunel pa bo z navezo na obvoznico mimo Innsbruka postal najdaljši sistem predorov na enem odseku. Skupna dolžina dveh predorov in povezava med obema predoroma bo dolga 64 km.

European rail freight to be boosted by new tunnel
It will not become operational until December this year, but the world’s longest and deepest rail tunnel was formally opened in June 2016.
The Gotthard Base Tunnel passes under the Saint-Gotthard Massif in the Central Alps in Switzerland to provide high-speed rail links between Italy and northern Europe. It cost approximately US$10 billion to build and has taken 14 years to complete since mechanical excavation work started in 2003. It is 57 km long, consists of two single-track tunnels and is the first flat route through the Alps. Up to 260 freight trains and 65 passenger trains will be able to pass through it on a daily basis.
It is claimed that each freight train is capable of carrying 100 TEU (50 x 40'ft containers), so that in addition to providing much quicker transit times, the tunnel is also expected to bring a significant reduction in the number of trucks passing through Switzerland.
